german shepherd breeders

german shepherd breeders, and the German Shepherd Alsatian dog

People love big, protective and loving dogs and that’s why there are a lot of german shepherd breeders but you should remember that the German Shephard is sometimes called an Alsatian because that’s where they originated in Germany.

If you want to buy a dog, it is important that you buy from a reputable breeder. Then you can be sure that it is from a good pedigree, and therefore is emotionally healthy. Dogs from a mixed or bad pedigree, can be really good too. The problem is that there is less reliability. For instance, they may turn out to be agressive, or bark a lot.

Many Germans still call them Deutscher Schaferhund because of their original sheepdog function but the breed is not very old and was really developed from a variety of sheep herding farm dogs in the late 1800s. In 1899 a German cavalry officer, Max von Stephanitz, was president of the first German shepherd association in Germany. Since then german shepherd breeders have turned up all over the world and they came to the USA in 1908 and were popular with the Red Cross, the police and as guard dogs. This owes a lot to the fact that they are very loyal and courageous dogs and very intelligent too!

They retain specialized training for a long time and it’s their temperament that ensures the usefulness of the German Shepherd. Since this comes from good breeding many breeders advertise their skills at creating dogs with good temperaments. They are highly territorial and will know and recognize their people and place by about six months of age. This is when their protective loyalty starts to show itself!

There are many german shepherd breeders and you should have no problem finding a good one, but just remember that they come in a range of colors and will protect you no matter what!
