Among the most loyal, friendly and intelligent dogs you can own are german sheperd puppies who reward their families with protection and love while their natural energy makes them ideal pets for children and adults alike.

These are big dogs and Shephard puppies are pretty large too but they are protective and loving and this is one reason why there are a lot of them about. Alsatians, as they are sometimes called, had an original function as sheepdogs but they are not an old breed and were developed from a variety of sheep herding farm dogs a little over a hundred years ago. Because of their size, impressive looks and original purpose, you might not think of them as family pets, but they are loyal and protective and learn difficult tasks quickly which all makes them ideal pets.

Their loyalty and courage, extreme intelligence and retention of specialized training come from a good temperament which ensures the usefulness of the dog. This comes from breeding and it’s important to remember that a bad temperament makes these dogs a disaster. You have a responsibility to give your puppy proper training and instruction.

This is all the more important when you realize that german sheperd puppies are strongly territorial and begin to know and recognize their people and place by about six months and this is when your german shepherd’s protective loyalty starts to show itself!
