small dog breeds

Little dogs are adorable and they can be highly suitable for both individuals and families alike which is why small dog breeds remain popular with a lot of people and can be a pleasurable pet to have around the house with their cute looks.

Small dogs have a variety of origins depending on the breed. Many have always been small, but some belong to breeds that have been bred to be smaller than their original ancestors. For example Pomeranians are descend from the sled dogs of Iceland and Lapland and were first shown in the USA in 1911.

Others like the King Charles Spaniel have been small dogs for centuries – they take their name from Charles II who loved to have them around him at all times. Royals still appreciate small dogs, and Queen Elizabeth’s Corgies are another small breed that are famous today. Despite their fragile appearance small dogs are often strong and hearty pets and though the adults are cute it’s usually the puppies that get the most attention! Many people like little dogs because they make good pets and are very agile and ready to learn but it is important to look for a stable temperament in them otherwise they can be snappish.

If you are looking to buy one from a breeder you should ask for small dog breeds to suit your purpose, because some types are better for families while others prefer individual owners.
