canine incontinence

canine incontinence, and wet kennels

Your dog is often your best friend and when things go wrong with it you care just as much as you would for a much loved person so that’s why canine incontinence can be a worrying and very embarrassing problem for both of you.

Basically as dogs grow older they can lose control over their bodily functions and leak urine without meaning to. This often happens to aged female dogs but it can effect all dogs as they get older. It’s a particularly worrying problem for people whose dogs are used to being inside all day as most companion dogs do!

What to look for? Signs that your dog has a problem include puddles or dribbles on your floor or carpet, damp bedding or obvious wetness around its rear end. But if your dog is urinating more frequently than usual, trying to go without success, or passing blood then you could have an incontinence problem on your hands. If this happens suddenly it could be due to an infection, but it just could be the result of what vets call a rise in the residual, or normal, volume of urine your dog is used to dealing with. This is like an overflow situation that causes your dog to urinate beyond its usual amount.

But don’t worry because canine incontinence can be treated both with drugs and products like dog diapers that can make your life, and that of your dog, a lot easier.
