|
You might choose a German name for your dog because it suits the breed; for example, if you own a German Shepherd, Dachshund, Schnauzer or Alsatian. Or you might just like the sound or variety of the German names which range from the popular and obvious ones for people like Adolf, Albrecht, Eberhardt, Fritz, and Heinrich (which don’t really have any specific meaning). Other names for people that have much significance include Andrea (a bright dog) and Liebe (love), while some others are very German, but are not traditional people names, like Autobahn (freeway), Lager (beer), Rahig (to Smoke or Smokey), Bratwurst (sausage), or Ruger (name of an old German gun).
Other German names you could choose for your dog
are very affectionate and refer to the way you feel about your dog;
they include Schatzie (little sweetheart), Mundle (Almond), and Zucker
(sugar). The huge variety of German names available for dogs should
help you find one that is suitable to describe your pet. Obviously,
big dogs are more likely to be called something like Mein Leige (my
lord or master) and Grizelda (Maiden of Iron), while smaller dogs
might be called Suesse ('sweetie' or like cutie-pie), but just about
any dog could end up being called Schwarz (black), Hexe (witch), Kaiser
(king), or Fraeulein (Miss) depending on what suited them best!
